How to Access LinkedIn Learning for Free and Boost Your Career Skills

LinkedIn Learning is an online learning platform that allows users to take video courses in relevant subjects taught by experts in that field. It is a premium service of LinkedIn that requires a subscription fee of $39.99 per month or $19.99 a month if you pay for a year in advance.

However, if you live in the United States or Canada, you may have the option of getting LinkedIn Learning for no cost at all. Here’s how.

What is LinkedIn Learning?

LinkedIn Learning is a skill-building solution that empowers users to develop their careers and grow their organizations.

There are more than 16,000 courses across seven languages, and once you tell LinkedIn the kind of classes you are interested in, you will get personalized recommendations based on your learning needs.

When you complete a course, you can add it to your LinkedIn profile to showcase your achievements. LinkedIn Learning also provides features such as exercise files, assessments, transcripts, feedback, and offline viewing to enhance the learning experience.

How to Access LinkedIn Learning for Free

It’s not a well-known fact, but all you really need to access LinkedIn Learning is a library card. That’s because a lot of local libraries subscribe to LinkedIn Learning as part of the online apps and services that they offer their members.

So, if you have an active library card, here’s how you can use it to access everything on offer at LinkedIn Learning:

  1. Navigate to https://www.linkedin.com/learning/login or download and open the LinkedIn Learning mobile app.
  2. Ignore the big email box, and instead click, “Sign in with your library card.”

3. On the next screen, enter your library ID after the URL, www.linkedin.com/learning-login/go/, and click, “Continue.” If you don’t know your library ID, check with your local library.

Note, it is NOT your library card number. For instance, the library ID for my library is “metrolibrarynetwork”.

4. Next, enter your Library card number and PIN, then click “Continue” to access all the classes at LinkedIn Learning.

If you are having trouble logging in or don’t know your library ID, navigate to your library website and look for a link to LinkedIn Learning. It could be listed on a page called Digital Resources, or similar.

When you click the link on your library website, you will be forwarded to the URL in step three that includes your library ID. All you need to do now is log in with your library card number and PIN.
